Foundation ‘De Wervershoofse Molen’

For more than one hundred and twenty years Flourmill De Hoop has been a characteristic part of Wervershoof. A mill with a rich history which has been preserved for future generations thanks to the effort of many volunteers. The mill has been brought back mainly to its original state; therefore it is really worth visiting.

You cannot only pay a visit to the mill itself, but there is also a standing exhibition which gives a clear view of the rich history of this monument that was in working order until 2002. Besides that, the mill also offers a complete daytrip and the mill shop is open all summer season.

History

In 1889 the first stone of Flourmill De Hoop was laid. De Hoop was one of at least 25 mills in the area. For more than 120 years De Hoop has been in working order as a flourmill. Until 1930 only wind energy is used for grinding, after that there are also electric driven millstones in case there is not enough wind to grind. Whereas in the past the flour was exclusively ground for local use (mainly feed products), from 1977 on De Hoop starts producing flour products. First just for the outlet in North-Holland and from about 1990 also nationwide, for bakeries.

Mill museum

In the mill museum you can experience the history of Flourmill De Hoop. The contrast between traditional and modern flour production is at the centre of the standing exhibition of Flourmill De Hoop. In the attic there is a standing photo-exhibition, in which the history of the mill and its surroundings are shown; the mills that were in the surroundings around 1900, the scenery at that time and the place of Flourmill De Hoop in all this.

Mill shop

In the mill shop you can purchase souvenirs, traditionally ground flour and pancake flour. The mill shop has the same opening hours as the mill itself.
Variable exhibitions

Every year there is another exhibition on the ground floor and in the flour attic of Flourmill De Hoop. These exhibitions are arranged in co-operation with other institutes and associations in the area and show a remarkable aspect of Flourmill De Hoop and its characteristic surroundings.

De Vang

The former flour shed of Flourmill De Hoop has been altered into an attractive reception room. Inside or in the outdoor café you can enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or soft drink. Snacks are also available.
Foundation “ De Wervershoofse Molen”

On the initiative of the foundation Old Wervershoof and the council of Wervershoof the foundation “De Wervershoofse molen” was founded in 2003. Aim of the foundation is the management and preservation of Flourmill De Hoop, as a monument for the community. The foundation consists of volunteers. After two years and loads of work, Flourmill De Hoop opened its doors in 2005.

Opening hours

The shop in flourmill De Hoop can be visited all year round on Saturday from 10.00 a.m. until 12.00 a.m.
From May until September the mill can be visited on Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 a.m. until 16.00 p.m.
The mill can also be visited by appointment on every other day (only groups from eight persons or more).

Children 6 – 12: € 1,00 (Accompanied by an adult)
Adults: € 3,00
For schools there are special fees

Route

From the A7, Amsterdam – Den Oever
Turning Hoorn-Noord, via N302 in the direction of Enkhuizen, after that, the turning Wervershoof via N240. Turn right at the traffic lights, direction Wervershoof and you’ll see Flourmill De Hoop.
From Lelystad/ Enkhuizen

At Enkhuizen N302 direction Hoorn. Turn right at the traffic lights Wervershoof / Greenery.
You then come at the N240. Turn right at the traffic lights in the direction of Wervershoof. Go along with the bend in the direction Wervershoof and you’ll see Flourmill De Hoop.

Flourmill De Hoop has some parking places. If they are occupied, you can use the car park of garden centre Den Heuvel
